Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivational Tow Truck Supervisor to lead a team of 6–10 tow truck drivers with varying levels of experience. In addition to leading the team, the supervisor will perform towing duties during their shift.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, a safety-first mindset, and a proven ability to develop and inspire others. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing daily shift operations, training and developing drivers, setting goals, monitoring performance, and promoting a culture of safety, respect, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Expertly operate a variety of tow trucks, ensure proper vehicle loading for safe transport.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor tow truck drivers to ensure high standards of performance and professionalism.
- Set clear performance expectations and goals; track progress and provide timely feedback.
- Conduct periodic ride-alongs and evaluations to assess skill levels and training needs.
- Provide hands-on training for new drivers and ongoing development for current team members.
- Address performance issues promptly with appropriate coaching, documentation, and disciplinary action if needed.
- Promote a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to DOT regulations and company policies.
- Coordinate with dispatchers and management to ensure efficient job assignments and coverage.
- Maintain high standards of customer service by modeling professional behavior and coaching drivers on customer interactions.
- Conduct safety meetings and performance huddles as needed.
- Support a positive and respectful team environment focused on collaboration and accountability.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of towing experience, with strong technical and operational knowledge.
- 3–5 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a fast-paced service environment.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop individuals and teams.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with towing regulations, vehicle transport safety, and DOT compliance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver’s license
- CDL
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualities
- Heavy-duty towing experience.
- Passion for leading by example and elevating team performance.
- Ability to motivate individuals through clear communication and consistent follow-through.
- Experience working with law enforcement or municipal contracts a plus.
- Comfortable using technology (dispatch apps, logs, reporting tools).
