All City Towing – Stepping Up When Others Won’t
All City Towing is a locally owned, professionally operated company providing full-service light and heavy-duty towing, transportation, and roadside assistance. Founded in 2011 by Jeff Piller, the business has grown from a one-truck operation into a 24-hour, three-shift enterprise with 77 employees and a fleet of 60 specialized vehicles and equipment.
As Piller proudly states, “I’ve got people in trucks and they’re always working.” This hardworking crew is based out of a 13,000 square-foot facility located right here in the Gateway to Milwaukee, with additional locations in Grafton and Sheboygan.
Today, All City Towing handles all official towing contracts for the City of Milwaukee and most of Milwaukee County—a major responsibility that underscores the company’s reliability and professionalism. Their services extend beyond breakdowns and crashes: they play a critical role in supporting the Milwaukee Police Department’s efforts to combat reckless driving, often responding quickly to remove vehicles used in high-speed pursuits or involved in dangerous activity on city streets.
Anchored by Leadership
With 18 years of leadership and industry experience, Piller leads the company with steady guidance and the adaptability needed to meet any challenge. His vision for the company is clear: Provide the BEST customer service and exceed customers’ expectations by going the extra mile. Guided by his personal motto, “Service, Safety, and Excellence,” he has built a reputation for taking on the jobs that others won’t touch.
That reputation was on full display in May of this year, when All City Towing was tasked with removing Deep Thought, a 44-foot boat abandoned on the Lake Michigan shoreline between Bradford and McKinley beaches. After six failed attempts by other teams, the stranded vessel had become both a public curiosity and an environmental liability, prompting Milwaukee County to turn to Jeff and his crew for results. “I offered a fresh approach coming from land, a really good attitude, and I guaranteed success,” said Piller.
The reality on site pushed the job from difficult to nearly impossible. What was thought to be a manageable load turned out to be a boat 10 feet longer and more than twice as heavy—44 feet long and nearly 100,000 pounds from accumulated sand and water. The boat’s deteriorated condition, the tall and jagged rock wall, the wet and unstable shoreline, and harsh weather conditions required not just muscle, but the mindset to match.
Still, Piller didn’t hesitate. He had a handpicked 12-person crew—“the best of the best,” he said. “The hardest working guys you will meet.” Guided by experience and backed by heavy machinery, including three 50-ton wreckers, the crew pushed themselves and their equipment to the limit. “It was the heaviest thing I’ve lifted to date,” Piller noted.
The recovery took over 10 hours. The team reinforced the boat’s hull, drained it, and used a complex rigging system to maneuver it over a steep shoreline and onto a flatbed truck. Despite moments of doubt, Piller remained a steady hand:
“I didn’t tell anyone, I didn’t think it would happen. But I could see it in my crew’s eyes. I just had to keep on telling them, ‘This is what we do every day. Maybe not a boat, but we do this every day. We’re going to work together and we’re going to get this out. We’ve got a really good plan. It’s rigged up well. We got this.’”
By 9:30 p.m., Deep Thought was secured and en route to All City Towing’s southside lot, right here in The Gateway.
A Local Business with Big Impact
More than technical skill, Jeff demonstrated a commitment to the community by honoring the original $50,000 quote, even as the true cost of the project soared. He applied nearly $35,000 in discounts to ensure Milwaukee County and its taxpayers weren’t hit with the unexpected fees.
As Piller reflected,
“I learned what it means to fearlessly lead under pressure—being steady when others are unsure, hiding doubt, and showing solutions.”
That mindset—paired with a dedication to service and follow-through—is why All City Towing is recognized not just for what they do, but how they do it.
In recognition of their incredible effort, four Milwaukee County Supervisors—Jack Eckblad, Sheldon Wasserman, Sky Z. Capriolo, and Shawn Rolland—gathered to thank the All City crew with a “Champagne of Beers” toast. With support from Molson Coors, each crew member received a case of Miller High Life and a commemorative t-shirt. Supervisor Eckblad also presented the team with a formal citation, calling it “a privilege to honor their achievement.” The small celebration was a nod to a local tradition: when someone helps you move in Milwaukee, you buy them beer.
In the end, it wasn’t just about moving a boat; it was about showing up for the community. We’re proud to have a business like All City Towing in The Gateway—a district defined by its hardworking, resilient, and straightforward spirit. Their willingness to take on the toughest jobs, and do so with integrity, adds real value to our business community and the region as a whole.
